Greetings and welcome to Pop District's debut album "The Gold Rush." Pop District is the solo project of Chris Macintyre; based in the Beaches, Toronto, Canada. Our friendship began many years ago – including his first 12'' on our affiliated label Distant Works back in 2015.

Chris is one of the most prolific and low-key artists in our bubble. He spent a decade touring and recording as half of Jokers Of The Scene and the last few years as half of Bulkhead (also check out projects Blank Capsule, DETOBEAT., Waterwalker).

"The Gold Rush" was recorded in bedroom studios between 2009-2012 during afterhours sessions between JOTS studio work. Completed and sequenced in 2012. Still in original form in 2020. Influenced by childhood memories and music of the past, future, and new directions in sound. It's hard to believe this was locked into the vault – these tracks were flatly rejected by every label at the time.

At first, we were simply planning a mixtape of unreleased Pop District material. Things slowly evolved and we ended up with a fully immersive concept and a complete album - both in a typical album format and also seamlessly mixed for tape. We left Chris in charge of all engineering, mixing, mastering, and album artwork with the intention of being a "completest DIY work."

Dream pop, ambient, and techno all come together here. Chris blew us away with his vision and warm analog expertise (no soft synths were used to create this album) and we couldn't be more proud and excited to release "The Gold Rush."
